artist Karen Finley on November 13, 2003, as part of her show entitled Psychic
Portraits at the Kitchen, a well known performance venue in the Chelsea section
of New York City. The portrait was done in gouache and pencil on handmade paper.
Ms. Finley, who was reared within a family atmosphere containing psychic
phenomena, considers herself an intuitive. Differing from traditional portraiture,
Ms. Finley's "psychic portraits" are interior portraits, i.e., impressions, mystical
narratives, and intuitive imprints of the sitter, done in words, symbols, and colors.
